Shoulder Pain Treatment in Bend, Oregon

Swing Without Pain

Shoulder injuries in pickleball, tennis, climbing, swimming and paddling usually come from repetitive overhead stress, poor shoulder blade control and limited joint mobility. We find the movement fault behind the pain and treat it so you can get back on the court, the water or the wall.

Sound familiar?

  • Lost internal rotation compared with your other arm
  • Sharp, stabbing pain during an overhead swing or serve
  • A dull ache at the front of the shoulder that disrupts sleep
  • Weakness or giving way when lifting above shoulder height

What we see most

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy: irritation and breakdown of the tendons that stabilize the shoulder, usually from overuse during the acceleration and deceleration of a swing.
  • Shoulder impingement: the top of the shoulder blade rubs against the rotator cuff tendons and bursa, causing sharp pain when the arm is raised overhead or turned in.
  • Strains and instability from swimming at Elk Lake, paddleboarding the Deschutes or climbing at Smith Rock, when mobility or muscle balance is lacking.

Ignoring early warning signs lets compensation patterns develop, such as Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit (GIRD) or scapular dyskinesia, which can lead to more serious problems over time.

How we treat it

Rest alone rarely fixes an athletic shoulder. Tendons and ligaments need the right loading to heal correctly. Care typically includes:

AdjustmentsIncluding drop table work, to improve thoracic spine, shoulder blade and shoulder mobility
Active Release Technique (ART)To break down scar tissue in the rotator cuff and shoulder capsule, restore fascial glide and release trapped nerves
Progressive loading exercisesThat rebuild the stabilizing muscles and shoulder blade control
WinBack TECAR therapyAlongside ART to support circulation and tissue repair

Ready to get back to it?

Care is one-on-one and starts with a movement assessment.

Getting back to your sport

Every plan is individual, monitored for movement quality, and built around your goals, whether that is a pickleball league, a triathlon or a climbing season. The aim is a shoulder that holds up to your sport, not just one that hurts less at rest.

Common questions

Do you only treat the shoulder itself?

No. We assess and treat the thoracic spine, shoulder blade and surrounding muscles too, because they all affect how the shoulder moves.

Will I need to stop playing pickleball?

Not always. We adjust your activity and loading as you progress so you can keep playing where it is safe to.

How is this different from physical therapy?

We combine hands-on joint work and soft tissue therapy with rehab exercise in the same session.
